What is one interesting or notable fact about your department?
In the past ten years, the School of Chemistry and Biochemistry has shot up through the rankings. It ranked 24th as a whole and 14th in my area of physical chemistry in the 2006 survey by U.S. News & World Report. And, we are still rising!

Why do you think prospective students should attend Georgia Tech?
Georgia Tech offers a rigorous education in the fundamentals of science and engineering and in the skills needed to apply these fundamentals for discovery and innovation. This is also tied into Georgia Tech's vision to help students be competitive in the diverse and international arena that has emerged in our modern "flattened world."

What words of encouragement do you have for prospective students?
Shoot for the stars, and settle for the moon! That is, you will find the most success when you aim high and work hard.

What is one interesting or notable fact about your department?
Since 1995, we have raised approximately $1.5 billion for Georgia Tech. Tech Square and most of the new buildings on campus are the result of private donations. It’s pretty cool to see that kind of change as a result of our work.

Why do you think prospective students should attend Georgia Tech?
The world is a very competitive place, and Georgia Tech teaches all of us that if we set our standards high, do our homework, and build a solid foundation for our future, we can achieve things that might have seemed out of reach before.  Once you've gone through and "gotten out," you're a member of a very unique and extremely supportive community that is yours for life. Not a bad trade-off for a few years of hard work!

What words of encouragement do you have for prospective students?
Georgia Tech is the kind of place where nothing is deemed "impossible."  If anyone, minority or not, learns to look for new and innovative ways to solve problems or accomplish tasks and finds only encouragement and positive feedback, everything becomes possible.  But Tech does not spoon feed any of us. If you can find a way to do something, nobody will prevent you from going for it. But, YOU have to make it happen.
